Next time, give them a newspaper with the employment ads in them. You'll probably get cussed at but it's always good for a few laughs.

Maybe he though it was his Mercedes and forgot he parked his down the block. Some of these people make more money then you do. I think that for some it is a last resort as they are truly down and out. But for some it is a job and a way of life. I personally would not want their job. In answer to your question you have to follow your own conscious on this one. I personal am polite and tell them no thank you, if the persist as some do I tell them NO.

The real people in need are those around you that have the respect in themselves not to ask for aide. There are many needs as well that money can't fix. The signs "will work for food" get me, alcoholics and druggies using advertising for legitimacy. You can say ok guy, hop in the car I got a lot of work for you. He will make an excuse every time not to go with you to work!

I'm sure that your "homeless man" was playing a joke on you. I don't think you should give directly to the homeless, but instead there are many organizations that try to rehabilitate and train them while providing a safe living environment

Have you ever heard of Karma? Have you ever heard that Christians (and others) are supposed to be non-judgemental? Have you ever heard of "Pay It Forward"? Have you ever heard of "Do Unto Others As You Would Have Done Unto You?" Have you ever heard that "Everything I have is a Gift from God"? Have you ever heard that "It is more blessed to give that to receive"?

For these reasons, if someone comes up to me and asks me for money and if I happened to have it, I will give them some. What their issues are, what their situation is... DOES NOT MATTER. What matters is that I have done something that God approves of. I have shared the bounty S/He gave me and because of my generosity, another's suffering has been eased. I also know that in the future, should I have some sort of distress, there will be aid available to me, because I laid the groundwork for it with my act of generosity. Again, it does not matter if the person asking for money did not really need it. THAT is not my concern. It is not up to me to determine who is or is not "worthy" of my generosity. That's between that person and his/her Creator.

No. You are enabling them to drink or do drugs. Give money to a charity like The Salvation Army instead.
Most of these bums are just rip-off artists like the one you saw.

I won't give them money. I will buy them a sandwich or donut if they are trully homeless then they will appreciate anything. If they are not they will only want the money.

I give 1% of my pay to the United Way. All the beggers can call them for help, and that is what I tell them.

Panhandling seems to be accepted today. Kids in mall walk up to strangers and ask for money. They are totally okay with this behavior, I don't get it.
