Problem:
1. The Electoral College.
2. The collusion of the two party system
3. Welfare
4. Illegal immigration
Solutions:
for #1:
Abolish it! It was devised for a time when the vast majority of people were uneducated to the point of total illiteracy. The elitist view, of that day, stated that these people were not capable of making an informed decision (due to their ignorance and lack of education which led to their inability to understand great things such as government) for themselves, and therefore, someone needed to vote for them.
for #2:
People need to be told that there are more than two choices, that these other choices ARE valid and that these other choices CAN win seats in government. This will defeat the self fulfilling prophesy that an independent cannot win.
for #3:
Welfare started as FDR's attempt to stave off the great depression. He was wrong! That decision only prolonged it by taking from those that had and gifted it to those who had not. Some programs had merit (public works and such). When the 2nd world war drew thw world out of its economic stupor, these programs should have ceased, but the were forgotten and ignored (the repeal of them, I mean). Government is a mean beast and it will never give up what it has already taken (taxes), so the programs persist and grow and are one of the biggest cancers in the US today! There should be a wholesale cancellation of these programs and those that remain, should be converted into a public works system. 20 people on welfare? 2 or 3 work on a rotating basis for the daycare for all and the others go and sweep the roads, clean the parks, become cleaning crews for public buildings, etc...

Stop all immigration for a period of 10 yrs. Close the borders to immigrants completely to those who wish to come here to live. Short visits only and an active force of agents to collect those who overstay. ENFORCE THE LAWS ALREADY ON THE BOOKS!
We do not need NEW laws, we have laws already! I would put one exception to that:
a Constitutional amendment that only gives citizenship status to children of citizens, not immigrants (legal or otherwise) and not visitors here on vacation, for example. Children should have the same status as their parents. PERIOD
