I love giving a baby ring on a simple gold chain. It becomes a keepsake. They're relatively inexpensive but you'll want to call around to jewelry stores first because not every chain carries them and some don't have much of a selection.

Babies have no clue to what is going on so why bother with a gift for them at their age!!

I buy stock in a company for their future! It is simply a smart choice and there are many companies that you can buy direct from without a broker so more of your money can go towards the stock gift itself. Check out "direct stock purchase plans" in the search engine.

any stuffed toy find one in the shape of a truck ect. clothes are always good but my favorite thing anyone ever bought one of my kids was a nice set of books the didn't use them for a few years but now they love them

Stacking blocks they will play with those for years my 4 and 5 yr old brothers still play with them.

Learning toys are always good. Get him a busybox, you know, one of those things that has little knobs and cranks and doors that open. It teaches them hand-eye coordination.
