If the temperature difference is severe enough, the glass will crack and break. Things contract when they're cold and expand when they're hot, and the glass can't keep up with that fast of a change. There are minor flaws in cups and glasses, so when it starts expanding rapidly, it cracks.

if the water is hot enough and the glass is cold enough it can break the glass because the molecules in the glass don't enough time to warm up. The molecules are slower when they are cold.

It breaks or cracks ... I think it's because you change the property of the glass so fast from cold to hot or visa versa , which causes a malfunction of the atoms assembling or getting further
