This work at home "opportunity" is an utter crock. Naturally the person spamming it doesn't give the details.
Yes, you get paid to post. How much? About 1/3rd of a penny per post. That's correct, post 300 messages and you might get as much as a dollar if they are "quality" messages.
You do the math.
So why is this goofball recommending it? Because he gets 20% of whatever you make. You slave away for 100 hours to make $10 and he gets $2. He he can talk 1000 people into wasting 100 hours of their life for $10/ea then he makes $2000. How does he con 1000 people into signing up? He spams 100's of messages a day on message boards.
It's a scam, complete and total scam. There is no actual payment schedule, they tell you they aren't under any obligation to pay you anything and most people never make more than $10 after wasting literally 100 hours or more.

Not all surveys pay you money. Most give you the chance to enter contests to win money. SOme award or give you the chance to win other prizes. Some do award money. You have to answer a lot of surveys everyday to make anything. You will not be building up a sustainable business by doing this and basically start from zero every day.
These are legit, free, and the companies are reputable and have been around for a long time. One of them is public. The other is 20 years old. They both involve selling in your local community as well as doing the online stuff. Like any business, it will involve a lot of hard work at first. The companies will help you. Their success depends on your success. You can start now.

The rule, as always, is to stay away from those that ask you to pay before you can get these surveys.
Legitimate market survey companies such as Pinecone Research recruit members based on demographic characteristics -- e.g. mothers of babies 0-12 years old -- and will send surveys of products and services targeting this demographic group. Pinecone Research, however, pays only $5 per survey -- you're definitely not going to be rich with that. They can give you anywhere from 1-5 at most surveys in a month.
Other companies simply ask you to answer as many research as possible, and you don't earn anything just the chance to win at a raffle (which I find lame).

I've listed some of the sites I have taken surveys through and actually been paid (or recieved other rewards like gift cards or CDS) on the following site, if you are interested:
http://www.windhavenweb.com/surveys
I list how they pay you, what I like and dislike about them, whether they have an affiliate or referral program, etc.
There are others out there. Be careful though, there are also scams. Don't sign up for any survey site which asks you to pay to access the surveys. Also watch for language like "get paid for taking surveys AND SIGNING UP FOR OFFERS" if you don't want to have to sign up for stuff with other companies to get paid.
Always carefully read their terms of service and privacy policy. If in their privacy policy they say they only use aggregated info, this is GOOD SIGN they are legit. Aggregated info information that is grouped together so it can't be connected with anyones personal identification like name, e-mail, phone or address. That's what survey sites SHOULD collect. Avoid sites that say they give, rent, or sell any personal information (info that is not agregated) to third parties (unless you really don't mind getting junk mail, telemarketing calls, and spam).
Also just recently came across a good survey ratings site that I've found very helpful:

I use these sites to earn money. They are all for reading emails and the last one is for chatting

My favorite right now is the third one. I'm making the most money with it faster than any of the others and it takes hardly any time.
