I don't believe in Bram Stoker/Hollywood vampires. But there may be some truth to the stories. Just think about werewolves and how the only thing that can kill them is silver, all bull right? But suddenly these day the market place is full of band aids with silver ions, washing machines with silver ions etc. all clinically proven to be better for you. So if they say that a lot of myth is based on some type of truth couldn't it maybe be true that werewolves had some type of disease that could only be cured by silver, and if so could the same not be said for some of the vampire myths?

Nope !!! Modern Vampire lore is a mixture of fiction / history.

Bram Stoker got the idea from a nightmare / the historical character Valad the Impaler, his story set the standard. There was also a character called Elizabeth Bathroy who believed that blood held the secret of youth and reportedly killed over 600 women (and bathed in their blood) before she was stopped.

The modern interest is really down to the Buffy series.

There are people out there who claim to be vampires, and drink blood, however it is through choice and an active imagination - they do not have any of the mystical characteristics of traditional vampires EG - Turning into bats, imortal, disolve in sunlight etc.

Yes to psychic and other types as well. While I don't believe there are a bunch of hot immortals with fangs running around. I do believe that the fact that so many cultures have long histories of vampires that they do indeed exist in some form.

Well Vampire lore started by at the begining of the Black Plague that first struck Europe in the mid-late-14th century many fell ill. Back then, they did not have medical experts, only religious officials who could not cure the plague victims and banishing the disease. No one, not even the Church included, was not able to cure or accurately explain the reasons for the plague outbreaks they believe it was the Devils work , there where cases where people that were believed too be dead, and suddenly rising out of the grave yards at night, and to find out some mistakenly had been Buried alive the Church officails believe it was supernatual evil behind all of this, so Church started practicing staking people in the heart with wooden stakes, and decaptating heads which too make sure they stay dead not realizing they have murder them, by accident.

Here is sample Essay by Barbara "tea for entombed" Mikkelson which stated it too.

"The 17th century saw a number of premature burials. Collapse and apparent death were not uncommon during epidemics of plague, cholera, and smallpox. From contemporary medical sources, William Tebb compiled 219 instances of narrow escape from premature burial, 149 cases of actual premature burial, 10 cases in which bodies were accidentally dissected before death, and 2 cases in which embalming was started on the not-yet-dead. "

Who believes in Vampires? Mainly the gullible ! There is a Vampire bat in Latin America, it is small, and targets cattle, it bites its prey, and LICKS the released blood. That's it! Human Vampires do not exist. There is no proof in any culture, in any museum, in any library or textbook, in any branch of science, that they have ever existed. Bram Stoker invented Dracula, Hollywood ,superstition, and gullible folk did the rest.

Yes I do. Who's not to say they don't exsist the day before they are bitten?

Here's a poem

From the darkness I could not awaken
For my soul was already breaken
I inhaled and exhaled the night
As if they were my life
As the father struck thirteen
All was quiet and serene
She came up behind me quiet as air
And totally unaware
I felt the pain in my throat that swalloed me whole
And up in the ceiling cloud painted blue
Was a demon in my veiw

I work in mental health and sometimes when people are very ill and have delusions they believe they are being targeted by vampires. Werewolves are also reasonably common. Religious delusions (saints, angels, Jesus, Virgin Mary ect are much more common however)

We exist! Simple, clear and don't need to run about in the dark!
Movies taint the existence to unbelievable levels! It is not a clique or culture but runs through history and many different countries cultures. The blood link comes from horror stories and is not needed to sustain our lives. We do not fear the Christian cross, this idea came from being buried at a cross roads, beheaded and staked.

Oh and come on folks lighten up and enjoy life!
