The question was:

An amusement park charges $12.00 for admission and $3.00 per ride. Write an equation for the relationship between the total cost y and the number of rides x. What is the y-intercept?

Well, I'm not sure how to write an equation, but I got 15 for the y-intercept because $12+$3=$15. Is it right? And what equation should I write?

y (total cost) = 12 dollars + 3 dollars * x (number of rides)

y = $12 + $3x

The y-intercept is at x = 0;
when x = 0, y-intercept = $12

The y-intercept is the point on the y-axis that the line crosses. In other words when x is zero, what is y?

x is the number of rides. y is the total cost at the park. If you got into the park it costs $12.00 for admission. If you don't do any rides (x=0) the total cost is $12.00. So the y intercept is 12.

The equation for a line looks like y=mx+b. m=slope, b=intercept

In this case y = 3 x + 12. $3 per ride + $12 admission.

Yes the equation is y=3x+12, so the slope is 3, but the y-intercept is 12 (just put x=0 in the equation, giving you the cost of admission and zero rides).

you have the idea of the equation correct, now you need to plug in the variables given in the problem. Since 3$ is the cost per ride, you add an X next to it to multiply and since 15$ is the total cost, then you replace it with a y. So your equation looks like this:
$12+3x=y.
Now the next part is a little shady in my head. If you take that equation and start plotting x and y with new numbers in the variables, then the dot will be on the y axis at 12 when x equals 0. So I believe that the y intercept is y=12.

$12+$3x=$Y.

If you only go on one ride then, yes, $15 is correct. But you need the X with the three so if more rides are added to it, you can change the amount.
