The problem with political correctness is that, while it started out with the idea of getting rid of prejudice and discrimination, it has developed in such a way as to validate these forms of behaviour, and it is just a matter of argument about who is allowed to do it to who. As an example. In a discussion on TV between a man and a woman, the woman dismissed the man's point by saying 'That is just a white middle class male's view' as though that statement alone was enough to refute the argument. In one phrase she managed to be racist, sexist and classist, yet nobody even blinked.

So we have a situation where

Sex discrimination is OK for women against men
Race discrimination is OK for blacks against whites
Religious discrimination is OK for Muslims against Jews and Christians

It has become just a game of semantics.

You must not say disabled, you must say differently abled, but that begs the question ' different from what' the obvious answer is different from normal - just as demeaning.

Well I would like to say it has but I feel this might be emotionally upsetting for the word "has" and therefore I ( I as in either a male or female ) will desist in this prognosis.

I feel certain that people ( people as in any human form whatsoever in regards to their religious or sexual or colour composition )should show respect for all living things ( this obviously should include all alien life forms known or as yet unknown to man).

Please excuse the last statement as I clearly forgot to mention that this applies equally to woman and other known lifeforms of whatever nature they may take whether black, gay, homophobic, straight ,white, yellow, lesbian or just totally f ucked off with the whole political correctness b ollocks.

The more people in power implement these things the greater split in society there will be.
The most obvious is as many have stated is the Christmas rubbish. The UK has a monarch, that monarch is the Head of the Church of England and yet we as her people are not allowed to openly celebrate Christmas ... errm, ok ... and who gave them the right to denounce our monarch ?
The petty rubbish that goes on is beyond belief, people even being told that competition is not right for them, banning sports days ... no doubt the same people then wonder why our football team fails, our athletics team fails ... etc etc
Ludicrous, ridiculous and above all dangerous ... it will end in tears of that I have absolutely no doubt at all.

Political correctness has done untold damage to our society by giving supposedly 'repressed' groups freedoms without any sort of balancing responsibility. Worst of all though, political correctness is an insidious ideological disease which has spread unchecked because most people just think of it as a joke.
Political correctness has made common sense a thing of the past. If you catch a burglar in your house then it's best to help the poor soul by carrying your possessions to the front door lest he should trip up and hurt himself and it's you that end up in court!
If they do actually succeed in getting a villain into court then the Magistrates hand out such lenient sentences (as laid down by the very Politically Correct 'sentencing advisory panel') that there is no deterrent. If you do end up in prison, the prison officers are told to call you by your first name and not say anything that may upset you! Just in case you get bored, you can keep yourself amused by repeatedly taking the prison governor to court over trivial matters that you think violate your human rights - all paid for by legal aid!
Travellers can descend upon your area, dump old cars and sh*t everywhere with impunity. You try doing it in your front garden and see what happens! They are allowed to bypass the normal planning controls that are so strictly enforced on the rest of us and cost local councils hundreds of thousands of pounds in court cases and clean-ups. Who pays? Why you do of course - just check your council tax bill!
Illegal immigrants (if caught) are rarely deported. Have you got a long way to come to get here? Why not hijack an airliner for the trip? Don't worry, we will still let you stay!
Would you like a black coffee? NO! You can't say that! It's coffee without milk and Local Authorities spend a fortune of our money on making their employees attend courses on Newspeak!
Our British humour has suffered badly. We can't tell jokes anymore in case it's considered racist or it upsets anyone. Don't these Politically Correct people realise that these are just jokes, said for fun and not real abuse?
Try organising an event or trip and you find yourself tied up in the endless red tape created by the Health & Safety Executive. These people are all part of the 'Nanny State' which insists in sticking its nose into every aspect of our lives and telling us how to live it!

I agree with most of the answers. The only people to suffer from all this PC rubbish is the honest hard working folk just getting on with their life's, and paying their dues to the state.
where as if you are a crook in any sense of the word, they bend over backwards to make things easy.

As a lifestyle change, ill become a racist, blaspheming, burgling junkie yob, and they will throw cash at me, well they wouldn't want to abuse my human rights would they

Much too far - its ridiculous. I was criticised for telling an english/irish/scottish joke. The same people told me not to use the term 'brown nosing' as it could be seen as racist (eh???!!!), and that you should never refer to people's colour when describing them, and a whole load of other similar nonsense.

As far as I can see, the more PC we get, the more things there are to get insulted about. Its the emotions and beliefs behind what we say, not the words themselves, that cause problems!

yes, in my eyes. No one is ever going to take freedom of speech from me unless bush keeps on tampering with our rights. And over my dead body will anyone ever put a chip in me or my child. Enough is enough. And for all of the lovely REP., You will welcome more control. I think most Americans are tired of the so called - Political correctness of everything they say or do. I'm tired of it myself. Who said, I can't be myself, have the changed the Bill of Rights and I don't know?

There are always people who take things too far.
Banning the use of the word 'pet' in councils
Being made to say 'happy holidays' instead of 'merry christmas'
Not being allowed to celebrate Halloween in nurseries
And the whole veil debate

Yes. When I have asked questions about RADICAL Islamists, someone always reminds me that there are many who are not radical and not brainwashed. I am not worried about the ones who are not. I am worried about the biggest threat the US has ever had--the ones who are radical and would kill us. This is just one example but a very good one I think.
