As many reasons as people trying, one factor may be self imposed stress of consciously trying to get pregnant. So relax, enjoy making love to your partner and you may soon become pregnant.

I think there are alot of misunderstandings about timing and conception. If your periods are regular (every 28-32 days), then your most fertile time is days 9 through 16. You should have sex each day during those times for the best chance at fertility. Also, you might have your partner's sperm tested. Your regular gyno Dr. can order the test, which just involves a sample taken to the lab within an hour after ejaculation. If his count is normal, then the prior answer is correct that after 6mos to a year, depending on your age, you should start talking to your doctor to find out why it's taking so long. Good luck!

I believe it is because different people and there bodies react differently and cope differently with stress, and when taking contraception pills there are so many different strengths that people bodies take longer or less time to get the pill out of there system. I think stress plays a huge part in conception when people actively try for a baby. I think that if you want a baby just stop all contraception and then see what happens.

Call me religious, but I believe a baby comes when its supposed to. Be it a one night stand or a couple trying for three years. I know that is hard for some people, but I truly believe it. Otherwise people would pop out babies like crazy.
Then there are more easier things to believe. Like scarring inside that makes it hard for an egg to implant. Or cervical mucus that isn't good at carrying sperm to the egg. Or a sterile partner. Or just bad timing. That egg has a short shelf life. If a sperm isn't swimming near at just the right time, there won't be a baby.

Nobody can really answer this for sure. There could be many reasons.

From my source:
If you're under 35 and have had frequent (about two or three times a week) unprotected sex for at least a year without conceiving (or three to six months if you're 35 or older), you may want to consult a fertility expert.

Sometimes when you stop trying it just happens, this happened with two different friends of mine, both had been trying for ages and had given up because they couldn't face the disappointment anymore and bam pregnant, so i think that stress and anxiety can play a part.

there are tons of reasons- everything from actual fertility problems to the sperm just not making it's chance encounter with the egg. Some women have difficulty implanting the fertilized egg as well.

If you try longer then 8mo-1yr I would see a fertility specialist and ask him/her.
