Most of my choices are Commercial Hindi Movies except for the last which I have not seen but this movie was internationally acclaimed.
I think some of the Ajay Devgan's movies and Shahrukh Khan's Veer-Zaara were also good .

I am not giving a rated list from anywhere, but to get 10 top Indian Movies its very difficult, basically in India we have many languages and each one more or less produces a movie, so it is impossible to come up with a Common list. However as per the popularity of the Hindi Movies among the audience and for some specuialities they had to make them land marks of Indian Movie industry enlisted few are real gems of their times :
1.Alam Ara - First talking Movie
2.Mother India - Nominated for Oscar Then
3.Aradhana - Ran about a year in Madras, a City from the state
where hindi is not appreciated highly!
4.Raja Harischandra - For Camera Tricks
5.Sholey - For Big Block buster, which was a failure initially
in the first week !
6.Hum aapke Hai Kaun - Record Breaking Gross earner of its
time !
7.Shiva Ka Insaaf - A land mark as a pioneer in 3D Movies
8.Pushpak - A silent Movie which was popular in every state!
9.Taal - Not only was famous for its music but famous for its
photographic effects, and was appreciated by one and all
when screened abroad in special theatres.
10. Mughal - E - Azam - First Indian Movie partly in Eastman
Colour.
You must know these facts as a real, enthusiastic Indian Cine buff !!!
