Upgraded PC to XP and lost the sound its a tiny computers model and took the advice of checking the sound card and doing a google search for the drivers. Can't find anything all I know is that its an on board wavetable32. Can I buy a seperate sound card if there is one built into the board already or is there another way?

Yes, you can install a seperate sound card into the machine and use that.

SInce you are obviously inconvienced by this Sound card and probably climbing the walls with driver XyZ right now I would suggest that you may want to just give up and buy a card like you suggest. Just get a simple cheap one which someone will state works with XP. Don't get an ISA card they are more trouble than they are worth and are ancient now. Just a PCI card from your local supplier, expect to pay no more than £10 and save your self a lot of piddling around....Best of luck John

Did you run http://pclinuxos.com yet? it works all the devices. and reports if they work. Then, if they all work, it is the drivers in the operating system.

I upgrade all computers from XP to Linux, because that is what Microsoft has done on ALL their corporate systems, servers, and development systems, Labs, routers, firewalls...

Thus the reasons for the deal with Novell endorsing the
interchange of operational programs and all devices with Suse Linux! So cool! Microsoft is actually paying Novell for Linux!!!

After you install your new sound card, turn your computer on and go right into your startup options BEFORE Windows boots up. (It's F-something). There you redirect your system to use the new sound card and not the on-board one.

You can install a soundcard, but remember in order for it to work, if your motherboard/system has on-board audio, you will need to diable this.

You should contact the system manufacturer to learn how to do this, unless you have a system manual.
