Hi Everyone!
I Re-installed windows xp media centre and deleted everything from my computer.

Now windows is installed all I have on my desktop is the recycle bin!

I go to the start menu and go on to internet explorer, the net doesn’t work!

I use Belkin ADSL Modem wireless router, I know this works as I am on my laptop now!

The Belkin Manual says type in 192.168.2.1 into the browser and input information which my broadband service provider has given me! That’s fine but when I type these numbers in only a message comes up from Microsoft saying error webpage can not be shown!

When I read though the bekin manual more, it says your computer network “tcp/ip/Ethernet “needs to be set obtain an IP address automatically/using dhcp ! This might be the problem but there is no option for this, any where as there are no folders with different ways to connect anymore.

When I go to “control Panel” then network and internet connections, this page is different how it use to look. There is pick a task

Set up or change your internet connection

Etc, etc …

I have been though all of this trying different ways to connect and set up a connections but I am still not successful. Inculding internet option and properties

Please can someone help??

Thank you very much

have u installed all the software that came the router,

if it is a wireless router i think you need to hard wire it to your pc in the first instance to set it up, when it is set up then activate the wireless option

Try this if it does not work would you consider system restore to the last known date where everything was ok.. Also after doing this do you have a disk to to install your Internet service from? Sometimes that works better than taking from a site.

Follow the steps given below:
1. Click Start, click Run, type system.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Performance.
3. Click the Data Execution Prevention tab.
4. Click Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.
Check everything box related to your Internet provider (usually more than one) an Internet explorer anything called econfig if there is one
6. Click OK, and then restart your computer.

Oh, one more thing go do something fun. Computer stuff like this can stress you out and be all consuming. Work on this when you are relaxed. Good luck

"Now windows is installed all I have on my desktop is the recycle bin!"

That's how Windows XP works. Nothing unusual there since you just reinstalled Windows but haven't gotten around to reinstalling all the other software that was on there.

"I go to the start menu and go on to internet explorer, the net doesn’t work!"

That's because you got to install the driver for the ADSL Modem wireless router. If you go to the device manager I'm sure you'll see that router in there with a yellow question mark or yellow exclamation point next to it. It won't work until that's resolved by reinstalling the correct driver.

Many people make the mistake of reinstalling Windows and not reinstalling the drivers. If you see anything else yellow in the device manager, then that's not working either due to no driver.

You just mentioned that it wiped out everything so I am sure that the driver of your ethernet adapter was included too. In that case, you need to have the said driver re-installed in that pc. Afterwhich, try to figure out from the provider of your modem if it needed special configuration (like setting it to bridge mode) before you can configure the wireless setup. The DHCP setting by the way could be found in the interface of your router.

An internet connection can become slow or stop working due to a number of reasons depending on the type of the connection. Many of the problems can be solved by making software changes or small hardware corrections. Detailed instructions at http://tinyurl.com/yl62gz

I have just had this problem call your internet provider they will take you through it on the phone. As it sometimes gets "lost" they will provide you with reset codes - good luck
