If you need to reinstall Windows anyway, it will allow you to delete the partition and create a new one from the install CD.

At http://livecdlist.com there is QTParted to erase, format, partition
any drive in about 5 seconds.
Any distro you choose of the 310 free offerings are probably just fine as they all contain a fantastic partitioner and instant formatter.

Reformat. I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems.Some RAM/hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful. Try this site, if you can get what is required.

If you have your recovery disk that came with the computer you should use that. It takes about 45 minutes and it removes all of your applications and software that you have downloaded and re-installs the operating system.

If you have the os disk, put in cd, type "format:c" and let it go to town..you will have to reload os, programs, etc. If you do not want to reload os, the type fdisk and let it wipe the non os sector. good luck
