A Ouija board was designed by the spiritualists around the late 1800's I believe. The look is the same, all the letters of the alphabet, with a "yes" and a "no" spot, are either on a tabletop, a wooden board (like the ones sold today) or a silk tablecloth. An object, called a planchette, is also included. This can be a triangle with three felt covered feet, which is sold today with a Ouija board, or even an overturned wineglass, as used on the silk tablecloth one.
Two or more people sit around the board, and lightly rest their fingers on the planchette, one question will be asked, and the answer, yes or no, or something more complex can be spelled out, by the planchette moving around the board.
The Ouija board was designed and used by the spiritualists as part of a seance to contact the dead, or mages to contact spirits who don't have a body. It's basically an interface for questioning spirits.
Similar to automatic writing, pendulum work, and even trance mediums.

One note, most skeptics and other "sophisticated" people consider all of this to be a joke, so I do expect some "witty" comments to be made about this. Most people who work in the occult community have a healthy respect for these forms of divination and contacting spirits, and usually advise them to be used with caution, and really knowing what you are doing with a healthy dose of knowing how to protect yourself.

A ouija board is used in divination and spiritualism. The board has the letters of the alphabet inscribed on it along with words like yes, no and maybe. A planchette, or pointer of some sort is manipulated by those using the board. The users asks the board a question and together or one of them singly moves the pointer until it selects a letter to spell out an answer. Some people believes the paranormal or supernatural forces are at work in spelling out the answers. People use these to try to conger up the dead, and or have questions answered. It is best used with your eyes shut or blindfolded to insure accuracy, but it is more or less used as a parlor game.

I think with all this talk about the ouija it may tempt you to try it. I hope you don't. Many years ago when I was in my teens we tried it and I believe we did contact some nasty spirits. While asleep one night I woke up to the sound of the pointer of the ouija board scrapping across the board. It was in my closet and I never touched it again. People are looking for spiritual strength, get it from Christ. He will not harm you. Don't stick your head in the garbage pail of spirituality with an ouija board when you can have the protection of Christ to help you in this life. I don't know why we humans are attracted to the manure pile when we can enjoy the sweet fragrance of Christ. Once I gave my life to Christ I would never touch one of those horrors from hell.ever again. Please don't use it. I pray you don't

It is not a game. Stay away, it is gate for evil spirit to posses possible victims like you.

Since the beginning of recorded time, man has claimed to be able to communicate with the spirit world. However, it would not be until the heyday of the Spiritualist movement that he would begin claiming to do so as an everyday occurrence. That particular movement was founded by two young girls, Kate and Maggie Fox, who established a way to communicate with a ghost. They used a series of knocks and raps that answered “yes” and “no” and eventually assigned a code for letters of the alphabet. In this way, they were able to spell out longer and more detailed messages.

As Spiritualism grew in popularity, those with an interest began to establish what were called “home circles”, small groups of friends and family members who would gather around and attempt to communicate with spirits. They experimented with the knocking and rapping sounds and later with Table Tilting, which was accessible to everyone and no professional mediums were needed. The knockings and rappings of the early movement continued to spread in other directions as ordinary people began experimenting with their own skills as mediums. Soon, the tiresome and time-consuming method of knocking and tipping tables began to fall out of fashion and so mediums began a new form of contact called “automatic writing”. While practiced almost solely by spirit mediums, it still became very popular at séances as a direct line to the spirit world.

Automatic writing was defined as writing that was done while the medium was under the control of the spirits. It was believed these ghosts would guide the medium’s hand and spell out messages for the sitters who were present. Most likely (ignoring cases of outright fraud), automatic writing actually consisted of material that was gathered in the unconscious mind of the medium and then put to paper as a message from the dead. However it may have worked, it soon replaced the slower methods of communication and soon mediums claimed to receive more complex messages from the beyond.

it is a board with the word " yes " and the word " no " at the top
then there are the letters a through m on the next line the second line has the letters n through z. below these letters are the number 1 through 0. below these numbers is the word " goodbye " there are spaces between letters and numbers. one then uses a " pointer " which supposedly moves spelling out messages to those using the board.

a ouija board is a board that one can contact spirits through.it is used as a saying to summon spirits.some say that it is dangerous to have in your home, but i say that is nonsense.if it is dangerous why do they still keep it on the market?but anyway,it is used to summon spirits up from the afterlife.i have one of my own and use it every night.and i have never had no bad demons come in it.but beware though,if used in the wrong way,you will conjur up something bad.and if u use it in the proper way, than you will have good.it is the same way goes with casting a spell.cast a bad spell, you will recieve bad luck three fold.cast a good spell, same thing.
hope this helps your answer!

It's kinda like a board game, the difference is that it can summon evil spirits into your life.
Not something to mess with.

It is a scary thing to become involved with. It opens you up for the evil spirits in this life to enter your life. Please don't go there. You are too precious to risk what is at stake.
