After her well visit she got a set of shots and she had a little fever but the fever didn't go away. A day or two after she started having 4 or 5 poopy diapers a day (very unusual for her). I took her to the doctor and she said that she likely developed a virus that will last 7 - 10 days. Well, the problem is ever since her shots, she has been waking up almost every hour at night. Previously she was sleeping through the night without a peep! So we go in and give her the pacifier and she goes back to sleep for another hour. We also still swaddle her. We just don't know what to do anymore though since we have never had a sleep problem with her. Has anyone else had any sleep problems like this when a child has a virus or is sick? I'm afraid she is developing a bad habit.

When a child is sick you want to comfort them for their sickness, but not put them to sleep. You dont want to change their sleep habits just because of sickness. You especially dont want to take them out of their room, or start soothing them back to sleep. Its the most common way to start a sleep issue.

I'd go back to what you were doing before she was sick.

Try the sleep lady's book, its excellent. And it doesnt envolve letting her cry it out. Which is especially horrid when she'd sick.

I had this problem too after shots but it was never as as bad as every hour! wow when are you sleeping! We had to go into her room and pat her or sing to her just to let her know we were still close by but it didn't really help. Finally took her for a recheck and it turned out to be an ear infection after it cleared we had one hard night of patting and singing and then she was sleeping again Yeah!!!! Good Luck it might just take some time again.

The same thing happend to my son after his four month shots. I took him to the doc and he said he had a virus and put him on soy formula for a week, its easier on their stomachs. It took me about three weeks to get him back on a semi normal schedule. I feel for you but unfortunatley theres not a whole lot you can do. My son just kinda came out of it

She may not like being swaddled anymore, but every baby is different.
