My husband and I want to settle down in India for one year. We prefer a cool place with low cost of living and preferably quiet place.

Well weather wise Banglore is the best as its cool and never cold. But neither is it cheap and neither is it quiet unless you want to live in the suburubs or outskirts.Himachal Pradesh could be cheap and quiet people are polite and very humble .But most places will get cold in winters.

Indian people describe what you are looking for as a hillstation. I have been to Nainithal, and it is the most beautiful place i've ever seen. It's not too cold there, as it is in the mountains, but it doesn't get hot. It does rain more than normal for India, but again, it is a lovely place to stay.

To live in india is already very cheap, so you shouldnt need to worry about that.

Enjoy your trip!
