Why would you trade 3 good young pitchers for a little ***** like
Shefield when you could have had Barry Bonds jsut for money. Barry Bonds is dominant even to this day, take a look at that on base. I dont want to hear about ethics beacuse all you people are so morally superior to Bonds, aren't you all; PLEASE! This guy is still kick ***, for an American League team and DH, plus Leyand can keep Bonds in check. I jsut don't see the logic behind it. Some one tell me if you know the answer. Signed disgruntled Mets fan who is still pised that we signed Shawn Green and now we are stuck wtih him and even more pissed we are bout to sign Alou

David Dombrowski is NOT an idiot.
He traded those pitchers because The Tigers
have a lot of good solid pitching prospects in
our farm system. The three he gave are going to
be average at best....so it was no big loss.

The Tigers needed a big bat in the line-up, and
Gary Sheffield provides them with that. It is a win/win
situation for both teams. Sheffield played for Leyland on
that 1997 World Champion Florida Marlin team, so they have
a good history. I am hoping that Sheffield cools his jets and
relaxes some. His bat in the line-up only makes The Tigers
that much stronger.

As far as barry bonds goes, Dombrowski & Leyland both
agreed that they did not want his attitude to mess up a good
solid clubhouse enviroment. Regardless of Bond's power,
The Tigers didn't want the cancerous attitude he would bring.

The Tigers are trying to build a winning team, not a whinning team.

And I hope you guys get Alou. That would be a sweet addition to your team.

First, nobody can keep bonds in check, he's the Terrell Owens of baseball. Second, Sheffield is better and the only reason bond's OBP is so good is because he is on a team with no great hitters so pitchers prefer not to pitch to him, bring him to a team with a good lineup and you'll see that he's really not that good. Third, the tigers already have one of the best rotations in baseball, in which all the pitchers besides Kenny Rogers are young. Fourth, why are you hating on Shawn Green, he's not a bad player and he was very good during the NLDS for the mets, I think you just hate him because he's jewish. Signed, a guy who knows a whole lot more about baseball than you.

Leyland didn't want Bonds, plain and simple. The man brings a sick kind of controversy with him wherever he goes.

The move to send three minor leaguers for Sheff was made because the Tiger's organization saw a great potential to win and win now, plus the future pitching situation in Detroit is still pretty darn good. Sheff may be a jerk, but he will not be booed in Detroit. Besides, Bond's numbers will get worse and worse every year from here on out.

The Tigers may have jumped the gun on timing, but I think the move makes sense.

I'm not so sure about the Sheffield part, he's an attitude - but Leyland controlled him once before. Bonds will be a MAJOR distraction/disease wherever he goes. I think that it will be Oakland - GREAT FOR THEM LOL!!! You should be happy if you get Alou, he is a contributor, and will fit in good with your team. Green is at the end of his career, you're stuck with him!

when you consider that 1989 no person has been able to advance the Tigers. Smitty did a damaging job. Their managers have been undesirable. Dombrowski has been helpful someplace else. i do no longer think of he's a venture. i think of that Mr. Ilitch desires sell the gang.

well, lets see. maybe because detroit is overflowing with good young pitchers, but they dont have a valid, consistent power threat on offense. and bonds is baseballs terrel owens. leyland isnt supid enough to give bonds a shot.

no one wants to deal with barry bonds unless they use him as a publicity stunt to get more fan and media attention. he is a selfish cheater and no one wants that on their team.
