Full name Matthew Woodring stover, and he's written several Star Wars books (some of the best) including Traitor, as well as his own Sci-Fi/Fantasy blends. They're violent, gritty, and I love them.
Heroes Die
Blade of Tyshalle
Iron Moon
Jericho Dawn
As a note, Traitor is sort of like a wtaered down version of his books. They're like teen-safe versions, but they also lose a lot of the philosophy and grit.

One thing I noticed with Traitor, even though it is one of my favorite books, was that it was quite a bit more vidi and gritty then most NJO novels. Wheras in Star Wars Insider they had an interview where they pointed out that hs bookswere adults only. I mean, his books were great but they seem kind of restrained, the philosophy was also forced, and the writing seemed restrained by the universe he was forced to constrain to. He only has a handful of books but I could see why they would have picked him to write Traitor after hearing what people had to say about his other books. Also the sort of borderline morals are very much more apparent in his books. Some Star Wars fans hated it but I liked the realism it added to Traitor.

He also did a good job with Revenge of the Sith. Also the reason why his fight scenes are so good, according to wikipedia:
He is an avid martial artist and a student of the Degerberg Blend, a jeet kune do concept that mixes approximately twenty-five different fighting arts from around the world. This combat style influences the way Stover writes his fight scenes, for which he has won considerable acclaim.

And if you like his books with Caine apparently he is working on two sequels, if the wiki is right. :)

You know, I'd never actually heard of him as anything but a SW author before. Looked up some stuff, may have to check him out. Thanks a lot. Like I needed more stuff to read. :)
