One sign that doctors look for when you are about to miscarry is for the cervix to begin dilation. The fact that yours was closed means that you are not dilating and are probably not getting ready to miscarry. As for spotting when you're 7 weeks, that's fairly common, but you're good to get the doctor to check you out. It's also good that you are having no pain. At your scan, they will look for a baby's heartbeat and see that everything up to this point is ok. All in all, it doesn't sound like miscarriage to me, but I'm no doctor. I had the same problem when I was 8 weeks, and again at 18 weeks...come to find out I have placenta previa and when I was over-active, I would start to spot. Now I am 22 weeks and just have to watch how much I try to do. It has been really scary for me because I actually did miscarry in April. My advice to you is to just try really hard not to get too worked up...I know it seems impossible. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU AND I HOPE THIS HELPS!

It is important that you have any spotting or bleeding checked out. An ultra sound will confirm that you are still pregnant. I have had two miscarriages and believe me you will know if you miscarry. There is a lot of blood and clots, like a really heavy period and a lot of cramping.

Your cervix is closed - that is a good sign. Your cervix keeps the baby in the womd until birth.

spotting during early part of pregnancy could be the egg embeding itself into the cervix which is normal and could cause spotting.

spotting could be a sign that you may be required to be bed resting for whole pregnancy. (thats what happen to me) but not to worry only sleep on left side of your body and you and baby will be fine because on left side your body the oxgen flows properly which your body and baby needs.

if your cervix is closed then could possibly been a sexual tear for having intercourse that can cause unexplained spotting. Tell person to be more gentle if thats the case.

Note after you've had one baby your cervix never truly closes but you said they told you your cervix is closed so from that i am guessing it's your first pregnancy.

some people do spot throughout during pregancy with no reasons. time when to get concerned you did right go to hosptial if you have any doubts or especially if the spotting becomes worst especially bright red in color. pains or bleeding.

other than that i wouldnt worry yourself about it because you'll just stress your body and you dont want to do that.
just wait to see the test scan results (ultrasound) back to hear from your doctor.

Think positive and be happy your having a baby.

Hi There,

Bleeding can be perfectly normal in pregnancy and can be caused by several things many of them no cause for concern.

You did the right thing in seeking medical advice though.

When you are miscarrying or going into labour your cervix starts to open so the fact that it closed is a very good thing.

I beld at 7-8 weeks with my son and was referred for a scan where I found everything to be fine and well and I know several other people who have had bleeding through different stages of their pregnancy with no ill effects.

Hope everything goes well for you

Being a mother of three, I believe you should go to the hospital immediately. Better to be safe than sorry. Go now; don't take a chance. And, not to sound too invasive, but the hospital will appreciate it if you bring any pads you may have used with you, so that they may accurately see how much blood you are talking about. Don't panic, you don't know if anything is really wrong. Just go.

Addendum: Follow your doctors orders. If he said there's nothing to worry about, then don't worry. You don't need the stress, especially if the doctor says it is nothing.

You say you went to the hospital when it started and was checked over and dr told you you have a scan tommorow? The doctor obviously was not too concerned and unless anything changes before tommorow try not to worry yourself unduly. congrats on the baby and I really hope all goes well for you!

Exactly the same thing happened to me at that stage of pregnancy, and I now have a healthy 10 year old.

No, it doesn't sound like a miscarriage - but it's good that you're getting things checked out.

Good luck xx

I started bleeding at 9wks & my cervix was closed.
The hospital couldn't explain why it was happening. They told me to rest & keep my feet elevated.
It may not be a miscarriage, But please see someone as soon as possible.
Try not to worry & rest as much as possible.
Take care
