Hey, you can still do it on single parents. You can ask any neighbor or parent of a friend who is single (or has known someone who parented alone). All you need is two or three moms (or dads, if you know them) who are single parents (the real thing) to tell you three of the greatest challenges they've encountered in taking care of their kid(s) alone.
Also, ask /em: what one or two things would've made everything a little easier for you? What would you do differently? Do you have advice for girls/boys who haven't had kids yet? Do you have advice for kids who were raised by a single parent? Would you change anything about how the government helps out?
Use your first paragraph to introduce your topic (tell the audience what you'll be telling them, or covering).
Each of the next few paragraphs can be one main point per paragraph, with thoughts, ideas, comments supporting why you said it (so you're saying things about each one's main point).
The last paragraph would be a thought or idea which pulls everything together, like a drawstring on a pouch. For example, "although the problems encountered by single parents seem incredible, these parents were willing to do whatever it takes to take care of the needs of their children".
Best of luck to you (I think your teacher and class would enjoy your article, the subject is dear to many hearts).

I live in cali and I just write an essay on how parents cannot meet the cost of living in California because the minimum wage is so low. then they may have to work 2 job or they may have to do other things just to survive.. you can go online and find out how much is the cost of living in your state or area and then compare it to the government's minimum wage...
Or you can write about the craziness for the new play station 3 s that came out on Friday..
or the movie Borat a lot of people are suing the company because they were misled and filmed without their consent

Does it have to be on any child related theme..or a parent theme...
some wonderful subjects that are very open ended...
parent involvement in schools
discipline (time out, 1,2,3 magic, conflict resolution, talking about it, consequences, to name a few)
kindergarten readiness
toilet training
full day vs. part day preschool programs
full year or school calendar preschool programs
Preschool teacher education
other websites that might offer some feedback for ideas:
Dept. Of Education (for your state)
Early Education and Care
NAEYC (National Association for the education of young children)
Good Luck!

How long does it need to be??
You could write about....how poverty affects crime rates (or vice versa) on multi-national levels .....OR.... how America is unnaturally great at breaking down trade tariffs in third world countries .....OR..... Childhood Obesity and Type II Diabetes .......OR...... Vlad the Impaler ....OR..... the emotional, finiancial, and cultural struggles of single parenthood, and the effects that it has on the children involved.....
happy trails to you
