I'm in Colorado and she's in Texas...i found checkers and a few others on yahoo im...are there places with a greater selection at little/no cost?

There are a lot of games in the regular Yahoo screen for two players. Not the IM. Go to Yahoo home pages and select "games", there is dots, and chinese checkers, regular checkers, and naval command, which are good for a child of 8.
Hotmail also has some interactive games that are free to play.

The best places to do it, on the internet, is definitely either Candystand.com, Shockwave.com, msn games, yahoo games, arcadetown.com. They are all fun and free. Some of them come with commercials, but they are fun to play online.

Yahoo has an icon that says games and when you click on it, it gives you catigories, that will lead you to thousands of absolutly free fun games.
