I need serious help with physics! What exactly is the berkley's osmometer? And what was Hartley's contribution to it? I know it deals with applying pressure to vary osmosis..but how does it work?

Hi. The device is used to study the pressure of osmosis : http://www.answers.com/osmometer and Berkley probably has more than one. I think it works by applying pressure the one side of a semi-permeable membrane until osmosis stops (or something like that). Hope this helps.
