The actual data that the restore point was created with has some how been corrupted. I would try one more time from the command prompt (before anything has a chance to load) and if that doesn't work, then reload the os.

RE:
Why won't System Restore work on my computer anymore (Microsoft)?
I want to restore my computer back to a restoration point yesterday but everytime I try it says it can't restore to that point. I've tried to do it at other restoration points but I keep getting the same message. Why is this happening and what can I do to change it?

Usually it means all the space you allocted for Sys Restore is used up. You can try to remove previous restore dates and see if that allows you to restore to yesterday. If not, this shows that it is a a serious operating system error, and you might have to end up reinstalling the OS (Win Me or Xp). Sys Restore isnt that great anyways, I would really look into Ghost and maybe Parition magic (Partition magic to make the partitions and Ghost for restore images).

This is actually a very common problem. most of the time it can be fixed by turning off restore, and deleting all the old restore points, doing a reboot and then turn it back on. It can be caused by many different things, usually a corrupted restore point is the culprit.

I get the same problem and would also like to find the solution....
I'll be watching this post for the outcome.
But for me the only solution is a full hard drive reformat, might just be me but over the course of 10 years or more that "restore point" never, ever worked!
Cheers!

you have one last way to restore your PC to a later date
reboot the PC and hold down the F8 key on the key board
a list of options will come up
one is for to start the PC to the last good configuration.
note is this works you will need to free some space on hard drive for system restore to work again
try the links below for info also
