The pump is usually powered by a power take off system tied into the transmission...The kind used to pump fuel differs greatly from the type to pump water... Look up a site for Gorman/Rupp pumps, it should be useful to you... Wish I had an idea of what you are looking to accomplish, would make it easier to help... Good Luck !

there are 3 ways to get liquid off of a tanker 1) Gravity -hook up hose open top and bottom and wait.2) Compressed gas, often reffered to as "AIRING it off" but in some cases inert gas is used in place of compressed air in cases where fire might be a concern -you hook up hose then seal top and either use your trucks air compressor or outside source to get the tank pressurized then open the bottom valve (you know the tank is empty when the hose jumps around)3) Pump- using a PTO pump is the least fun and the most work but it is also the fastest if done properly ( i say that because if you "air" something off at a big chemical plant that has HUGE air compressors or a supply of nitrogen that is NOT inventoried you can force that stuff off at 50 PSI while the pop off valve is going CRAZY-unsafe but the MOST FUN-LOL)

well if you are talking about like a semi hualing fuel they dont use pumps they use gravity to fill the ground tanks at the gas station. and since most tankers are divided section tanks in one large body you dont usaully drop ten thousand gallons

These would be jet pumps. In the case of fuel they would have no moving metal parts and a totally enclosed electric motor.
