Hardware: You may need to open the comp and remove/ reseat the card. Make sure the power is OFF and you are touching metal to ground yourself. Touch the card only by the edges.
Software: The driver may be corrupted. Replace it. The computer may have lost the configuration settings. Reset them.

Go to the manufacturers web site and download drivers for the sound card. A their site you will be able to confirm the computers config and specs.

Try disabling your sound card for a couple of minutes, then enable it again and then re-start your computer, sometimes it works.

If you have a onboard soundcard you should download the driver
Realtek ac97.After installing the driver you should have sound.
