I have a grass road that goes around a pasture and for the past 3 days I have had a Raccoon sleeping in the middle of the path. It doesn't appear sick it just looks to be sleeping and is definitely breathing. No amount of noise will wake this thing up. I am concerned if I call animal control the animal will be killed but it is in an inconvenient location. Is this unusual behavior for a Raccoon? I want to move it without hurting it.

Do Raccons hibernate?

This raccoon does not appear sick or in pain. He looks as comfortable as my cat when it is sleeping in a ball at the end of my bed. My cat however will wake up if you bounce a 2 inch stick off its head. I don't feel like getting close enough to poke it.

This is not natural behavior for a Raccoon and can be a sign of serious illness such as rabies.

Do not touch it.
You will likely get harmed.

Do not try to trap it.
You will likely get harmed.

Do not call Animal Control.
Most Animal control groups do not have the knowledge to work with wild animals.

Call your county extension (There is an office for every county in the United States and is supported by the USDA. Often 4-H is associated with it) and explain the situation to them. They will either tell what to do or, put you in contact with a wildlife group. That is, people who volunteer to care for wild animals.

Animal Control won't necessarily kill the raccoon, just tell them to move it without hurting it and I'm sure they will oblige.

This type of behaviour isn't really unusual for a raccoon as they are not afraid of humans (mostly) and will sleep where they are comfortable. But it shouldn't be awake in the morning as they are nocturnal creatures.

I have stumbled upon a raccoon sleeping up in a 50 foot bare tree in front of my school. Quite interesting really.

Have you tried to poke it with something long from your car so you are safe? definitely do not approach it without caution.Animal control will not destroy the raccoon unless it is severely injured or sick or has rabies. Their job is to move the animals from harms way of humans and each other. Good luck

Racoons are nocturnal and there is something wrong with him if he is lieing there and you can not rouse him. Perhaps he got into some poison ( antfreeze) or someone put out bait?
You really should call the SPCA or Vet or animal control.
He may be in pain as well.

because of the fact they are ANARCHISTS (sure it extremely is shouting btw) or perhaps its because of the fact raccoons are batsh*t loopy and could nap everywhere they please BQ : no! babby would not be approved to "play" with a sound asleep raccoon, its only too risky.

Hi. Raccoons ARE nocturnal, but this one may have a problem. Can you trap it and move it safely?
