327 , 350 , 377 , 383 ?
I have a bunch of 4bolt blocks , some roller some not and lots of cranks / pistons . I was wondering what people are looking for in todays market.

I threw in the 377 because I have one 400 4bolt block I can destroke .

The 327 for a small light quick street car.
Short stroke = quick R's
The 383 for a sporty truck
Long stroke = torque

This question depends entirely on what you want to do, for daily driving, personally, I'd build the 327 just to be different. If you're talking about racing, we need to differ between a circle track, a real (1/4mi) drag race and a 'junior' (1/8mi) drag race. For a quarter mile, you can build the 383 with a taller gear or a 377 with a shorter gear, the 377 will rev quicker but offer more top-end horsepower. The 383 will get out of the hole quicker with its bottom-end torque but offers less up top, which makes it good for an 1/8 mile race. It's really a matter of opinion and the job the engine is going to do...this is mine.

I have a feeling you probably already know how to make some good power, but I will humor you anyway. I would build a 406 if you are sticking with a stock block &crank combo.(4.155x3.750)
OR 421/434 if a aftermarket crank was in the budget.
There is no replacement ,for displacement....as you know, but I personally prefer the 421 (4.155x3.875) with a 5.850 rod for a decent street/strip budget combo. The 434 (4.155x4.000) is just more of the same ie: good power producer - but 1 broken crank was enough for me($1300)
As far as todays market - good 400 blocks have been hard to find for some time now, that is the reason you see so many people running 383's these days(and the fact that they work well)

I would go for the 377, if you tell people that you have a 350 they're just like "oh... another small block", but if you say you have a 377 I'm pretty sure you would get asked if thats a Chevy motor, then you could go into how it came about and such. But personally i wouldn't build any of the ones you listed, i would build a 283 :), not alot of those around anymore.

327 block with large journal 283 crank=302 as I understand it that is how chevy made 302 , then later put 327 cranks in 283 blocks to make the 307 302 had big pistons ,short stroke and quick rpm,,307 had small pistons, long stroke, and was just a good engine placed in lower end cars.
302 with pink stripe cam for high rpm don't put it in an automatic though, it won't idle smooth at all

With the torque of the 383, you could end up up-grading driveline to handle the big torque....where if your power comes in later, the vehicle is at least in motion before it comes alive. I'm a street / strip guy and I like revers !
