I used to talk to people I didn't know personally on the internet a few years ago when I was 12 or 13 and I want to get a facebook but I don't want to if there is a big risk that they could find me. I have it set pretty private. Only people in network can see my profile. No one can search for me. No picture, though they didn't see a picture 5 years ago anyway. But I don't know if you would think it was at all risky. I just wish there was a way so you wouldn't show up in people's friends lists, then it would be pretty safe.

As in anything, use caution. If you are easily talked into something, and from what you have said you do not seem to be that way, then internet can be very dangerous to young inexperienced people.

To say that the internet is totally dangerous I cannot agree with that. I have personally met some very nice people on the net. I have talked to them extensively for months before thinking about meeting them. In fact I met my wife on the internet, and I am not the only one to do so. We have been happily married and together for over 7 years. (we are both retired)

The best advice I can give is to be very very cautious and level headed about those you talk to on the net and never just jump at what might look like a good strawberry shortcake there can be some bad strawberries in the mix.

NEVER trust the internet. Have you ever watched Dateline 20/20 when all those sick bastards go after some 13 year old at home alone??
Get out of you house and hang out with real people at the mall or wherever kids hang out nowadays. The internet is very addicting so limit yourself.
But seriously if someone really wanted to they could figure out where you were.
DON'T RISK IT!!!
