First see if the fire place is plugged in good. (unplug it and plug it)
You might have to check the fuses.
If that fails check the termometer if it is properly turned on (put it on the max and run it back to min few times, and at the end leave it to max for few minutes)

if all of these is OK than call tha electrician or you by your self will have to inspect wether it is ti the thermometer or the heater (I doubt it is it, but it might be).

I'll have to go along with that one answer to call an electrician if everything is O.K. I personally do not like appliences like this, for this reason. Give me wood anyday.
