That would eliminate the Michigan problem. UM could still be ranked number 2 they just couldn't play for the championship because they didn't win the Big Ten.

Joey - if their were co-champions then they would be able to play. but, if you can't win or tie your conference then that is a way of eliminating teams.

I think the best two teams should play in the National Championship game. Michigan is clearly the number 2 team in the country right now, even with USC winning last night.

What would have happened if Ohio State and Michigan did NOT play this year, as some non-rivalry teams do in the Big 10? Then your proposal is dead on arrival because a lot of people could clamor for a matchup in the National Championship game.

However, best thing to do is a 16-team playoff (11 conference winners, 5 at large teams). First round at campus sites, remaining rounds at bowl sites.

I don't think you can say Michigan is the # 2 team for sure. There are other teams that are still playing...doesn't USC still have another game? There are plenty of 1 loss teams who think they shuold be there. This is where the BCS fails.

Is Boise State still undefeated? Put them in.

Well, it doesn't matter, because the BCS needs to go. In a true playoff system, you should be able to get in if you don't win your conference, but you're going to have to prove on the field how good you are.

Yes, I absolutely think so. You should have to win your conference to get a NC bid. That's only fair, logical, etc.
