My BF and i are debating over the tree, the facts are as follows:
1) I spent £50 on a pretty fiber-optic tree
2) BF says it is far too early to display it
3) I compromised by suggesting Dec 1st
4) He says this is still too early and that 2 weeks before Christmas Day is appropriate
5) House is mine and he doesn't live here!
Who do you agree with?

Well, if (and when) you live together, then you start to compromise. But, since it's YOUR house, you do what YOU want. Put that baby up in July if you want!!! Personally, I hate when people decorate for Christmas before Thanksgiving. I dont know why. Its just a thing I have. I just got my own house this year and I think I am going to put my tree up maybe the first full week in December. But I say do it your way for as long as you can. You'll have the rest of your life to compromise with him, when he's your husband.

We live with my Father in law and he don't like the tree up until closer to Christmas like 2 or 3 weeks prior to christmas. I like to put it up the day after Thanksgiving and says it shouldn't be up. However, my parents had this tradition while I was growing up. I believe three weeks prior to Christmas is apprioiate for you to put up your tree.
If you have the small fiber optic tree then find a counter and put it up but not plug it in yet.
Another note if you have a fresh live tree then you have to do 2 weeks. If it's just a fake one it can go up near Thanksgiving. Day after Thanksgiving marks the Christmas seaon start. My town already has thier Christmas decorations up.

You house YOUR RULES...
I put mine up on Christmas eve and it comes down Christmas day... I hate the stupid things... I have my home already decorated the way I like so I don't need a tree sticking out like a sore thumb.
You should get to do what you want. BF has no say !!

Not sure how it is in England, but in the former colonies the "Christmas Season" doesn't start until after Thanksgiving, which is Thursday.
Now, personally, I'm not one of those people who puts their tree up the day after Thanskgiving and takes it down the day after Christmas (Boxing Day for you and the Canucks). I prefer to put it up about mid-December and leave it up through Epiphany, the true ending of the Christmas season.

You're in england right? if so you probably don't have Thanksgiving-which is this week, but usually here people will set up their deco so when their familes come over for Thanksgiving, everythng will look nice. Anyway this time is about right for some xmas stuff. Set up your tree, I have one like that too as a matter of fact. If he doesn't like it just give him some egg nog and smile. :)

Not sure. I also think it's far to early to display it and I would always leave it till one week before Christmas because then atmosphere and the coming event somehow make it complete pleasure, but if the house is yours you should be able to do it your way.

Not his house, your decision. But I personally hate festive season. Christmas trees, Santa Clause, Carols, yuck. I would leave the tree until 20th of December.

your house you do as you like, in his house if he doesnt want to put the tree up till christmas eve then that up to him ! although personally i think november is a bit early, i usually put mine up the 1st weekend in december which is when i start to feel really christmassy, i prefer the run up to christmas rather than having them up just before the day and longer after, i usually take mine down on new year day!
