My fraternity brother was an offshore engineer. He got offered US$120,000 right out of college and that was quite some time ago. I guess there aren't too many guys designing jack-up and semi-submersible oil rigs these days.

My brother-in-law does chemical engineering, doing pigments. Anybody every paint their car "pumpkin orange"? That's his color! Paid US$90k year at an upstate NY chemical company.

My uncle did recombinant DNA (genetic engineering). Knows 4 languages, only person to smoke me at Jeopardy and has more money than he knows what to do with it (except give to me). Made about US$1m per year, but most of it was in options/stock grants. He was also employee number 2,000 or so at Genentech, so you can imagine... Also, don't know exactly how much he made as I'm too polite to ask. Sometime nerds do come out on top!

I would suggest you a Design engineering job. this might take off slowly, but, eventually, you would be earning the highest of your friends.
