How can i route a mac to a pc printer?

I need to route my Mac computer to my Canon PC printer. Does anyone want to give me some serious in depth directions?

What type of connection does the printer have? (USB, Parallel, etc.)

What vintage Mac do you have? (8600, G3, G4, iMac etc.)

Is it a networked printer or do you want to connect directly?

Some printer are not able to connect to a Mac due to no drivers ever being written for Mac. (Had that problem when a wrong HP printer model was shipped to me.)

Some printers (Parallel) needed special adapters to work with certain model Macs. (the pre USB models primarily)
