Can anyone please explain in simple science how does the sun make your skin darker/tanner? Thx

I am not sure, but melanin the coloured pigment which protect DNA from harm such as harmful UV rays. Darker people in hot counries cope better with sunshine. Although some of tanning may be due to damage, it may be a result of transcription of the protein melanin

tanning is due to ultraviolet rays from the sun.. these are harmful in big amounts (i mean if u stay too long under the sun) because ultraviolet rays are now escaping in bigger amounts than before because the ozone layer is being damaged by several pollution factors..
personally i don't advise u to tan because u may get skin cancer
