I usually do this. I make a lot of skirts for myself and they're just plain A-line skirts. So I'll usually add something like pleats, a ruffle, layers, etc...
It's somewhat easy to do, your most important tool is your imagination (and a sewing machine of course) so you can come up with many ideas. I'm not sure if you're a guy or a girl, but for your t-shirts you could make them into tanktops and take other old shirts and make a faux corset/bustier. It wont be as sturdy but it'll have the look.

Yes, you've come to right place, or should I say person, here are some ideas:
- "Patches/Trimmings" if you have any old blazers, or denim jackets that are a bit dated you can add a little flair to them with
courdoroy patches, or leather trimmings, at the elbows, wrist or collar.
- "Go Sleeveless"- If you have any long sleeve shirts that are a bit dated, or have become to tight in the arm, or you just want to "revamp" - cut the sleeves off, and make them summer shirt.
(Also this will give you a reason to lift some weights, and get those biceps ready)
- "Accessorize" - Sometimes an outfit is all about the accessories you wear with it, a nice hat, matching scarf, belt and shoes, matching. Consider this when your putting on one of your old outfits, add new accesories.
- "Tailoring/Lining" - If you have changed in weight, you can give an outfit a whole new look by tailoring to accomodate your size, either adding more, OR tapering in for a more sleek and fitting look, Also adding "Lining" to some outfits will give it a whole new appeal.... and subtle sexiness... like a nice paisley satin lining in a velvet jacket.... go off very well together.
I hope this helps some, and good luck!
And happy spicing.

Jeans look good if you paint them with gold or white or silver fabric paint... or more of the indigo
color ... you can also spot-bleach them for fun, or cut the bottom of the legs off so you can fringe
them ... and buy a sparkly belt ..
shorten skirts & blouses
dye // over-dye: use some light dye to give more
color to a print ... say, it's roses on a white background... dye it pale pink ...
take in seams
apply lace, braid, or ribbons
buy new accessories
different buttons
put on fake fur ... especially a coat, just for fun
and make a hood of the same material
embroidery
