I think you might mean "inflamation" instead of "infection." You might have torn something in your wrist and that set up an inflamatory response in your wrist

I am glad you are feeling better.

There is not enough information to offer a precise diagnosis but common sense dictates if you suffered an injury and have now lost some of the use of your hand or wrist that you must be seen by a physician. After 'landing' on your wrist the most likely problem would be an injury to bone although if you are not able to do certain things it may be that 1 of the tendons in your wrist or hand have been injured and such injuries may be temporary or permanent. Please see a physician.

There are some basic facts you need to know. first there are several structures that need to be considered when talking about the wrist. there is the top layer of skin epidermis and dermis these defend us against external germs and other toxins. if one is to go below the skin then your dealing with internal structures like your bones ligaments and tendons. there are bacterial on our skin and of course one can get germs from outside sources. if you break the skin's surface and sometimes this can be microscopic and other times it can be a puncture wound, bacteria (germs) can get into the skin surface and cause what is called cellulitis. don't forget the germs want to live and they will utilize the nutrients found in the skin and other tissue to multiple. If you have deeper wound say a puncture wound that goes below the skin then you have the potential of developing more serious complications; such as an infection of the joint spaces or worse yet an infection of the bones(osteomyelitis). in either case one way is to try to prevent any disruption of the primary defender in all this your skin. make sure your up to date on your tetanus shot. wash any superficial wound with warm water and plenty of soap. if there is a puncture wound I would see your doctor asap. hope this helps Pete
