Have you noticed that the narrator's name is not given (it's not Alice, or anything else, for that matter?)

I can't believe they are still assigning this book in school. Did your teacher mention when starting the lesson that the book is not a real diary - it's a fake diary written by an adult mormon lady - she claims that it's "based" on a real client of hers (she was a therapist) but she sold the story as true and it wasn't realized by the public that it wasn't an actual diary of an actual teenager actually using drugs until the author finally admitted it in the mid-80's.

The author got sued because after the success of Go Ask Alice she published a bunch of other "true diaries"; one was a book supposedly about a boy whose family worshipped all kinds of weird stuff about Satan. The family sued and it turned out what she'd done was taken this kid's actual diary entries - just normal troubled teenage boy stuff - and interpersed them with made-up entries about Satanism and creepy rituals.

Go Ask Alice is so sensationalist and filled with events that are completely irrational (you'll become a drug addict living on the streets after trying drugs once! You'll try to quit and the bad kids will put drugs on your food to get you "hooked" again! You'll become a drug addict the instant you start ironing your hair, wearing fringe vests and acting like a hippie! yikes!) that I can't believe any school would authorize still having it on the curriculum. There's nothing wrong with the moral "don't do drugs." there IS something wrong with wasting your time reading a badly written book of fiction that doesn't accurately represent the struggles of a teenager fighting drug abuse and drug addiction.

There was a song of the same name in the late 60's/early 70's by Jefferson Airplane that was about taking drugs with a "Alice in Wonderland" connection. I always thought they were related. I'll put a link to the lyrics below. Perhaps it's a message to the reader who might think about going down the same path, or rather a warning since we can't ask her anything now she's dead.

Well she was a drug dealer in a school. If you wanted a hit you go ask Alice.

I did examine this some years in the past, i enjoyed it even with the undeniable fact that it did no longer pass away me with extreme hopes. I kinda felt that if left plenty undone. It became into very stable yet i felt that i in no way incredibly knew the female.

I think it represents that she would be the one to talk to if you have any drug problems.
