I'm in Massachusetts but I know that Joanne Fabrics has classes. You could also try calling your local high school or town offices and see if they can offer suggestions. Wish I could help you, I'd love to teach sewing.
I just read the other answer and when they mentioned quilting clubs it reminded me of my mom. She's always at Council on Aging in her town. I bet some of the "older" ladies would love to help you out. Try calling your local Council on Aging and see what they say. Lots of luck!

I don't know about Connecticut, but am going to make a leap and a guess. Here in Texas, where I bought my sewing machine, they offered classes. It is not part of a big chain, though, and you got two free classes with the purchase of a machine, or if you already had a machine, could pay for the classes.

See if you can find a small, locally owned sewing machine shop. If that option does not pan out, you might check with the local high schools (although I can imagine they don't even offer such things any more). As a last resort, how about connecting with a quilting club. While they are not doing the type of sewing you want, I bet some of them have the experience, and may welcome the little bit of extra income.

I know how to sew, and have long thought about offering sewing classes once I retire. It is becoming a lost art, and I do enjoy it so much-a real creative outlet.
