In Northern Ireland they seem to have had plenty of practise at making them,it would appear to favour a wide necked bottle like the milk bottle type filled 3/4with petrol and copious amounts of sugar, then a rag soaked in paraffin because it is slow burning stuffed in the top of the bottle. Now the tricky bit which I would think requires a lot of trial and error, you light the rag and throw it at something hard to smash the bottle releasing the petrol and sugar mixture which burns and sticks at the same time ! Thankfully it seems to be out of favour nowadays a means of entertainment !

I think smelly has given you the best answer, but I would add that a milk bottle is one of the best because it smashes so easily. Wine bottles tend to be pretty tough

I forgot the sugar, well spotted GAR
