Wouldn't it be fair to let the person decide with which group he/she identifies most?

I really don't like labels, but if society insists you carry one, shouldn't you have the right to select it yourself? For example, would it be okay for a person with a white father and a black mother to list "caucasian" on his/her passport?

This is a question I might have asked. For instance I am one quarter Jewish. That doesn't make me Jewish [ as Jerry Sienfeld would say, "Not that there is anything wrong with that]. I agree that it would be fair to let the person decide what to call him/herself. Looking forward to the day when a person is not pre-judged by the color of their skin.

Hey, it's how we are taught from little children to categorize things. If it looks like its green, then it can be initially assumed that it's green related and belongs with the green group. Blame society and early education. It's how we are raised.

Oh - and your comment about choosing which you would like to be called: well, in a patriarch society, you would be white if your dad was white. The problem is, are you talking about what people on the street would classify you as (which you can't really control) or what the government classifies you as (which would make you white because that's what you mostly are and some gov't questionnaires don't let you pick more than one race)?

aye i like to think it happens like paint...

white one drop black... makes it no longer white.
but if you have black paint it sure does take alot more white paint to make it appear really white...

liek myself... i am a Jew with dutch and ukrainian and even a very very very small portion arab.

I tend to see myself more of a jew than anything cuz that is what my traditions and holidays and interests... make me.

in my house sports are... backgammon, chess, and trivial pursuit.

i know some individuals with 1/4 black ancestry that identify with whites... and others that identify with blacks i guess its ya choice... If i wanted to be identified as arab with my lil 1/16th sliver. i could so choose to be.

I dont i just pretend that part doesnt exist... but thats my choice

Even if a person is black or white, they can still hang out with the group of people they choose to.

yes but when someone sees a person with darker skin color than normal, even if they can tell they are part white, they notice the black part first
