I was driving yesterday and unknowingly changed to neutral without depressing the clutch, while approaching a junction. I was surprised that i could do it without depressing the clutch. Therefore, i parked the car, turned off the engine, and tried to change the gears without depressing the clutch. I could! I was shocked! Is it possible to do that? I'm worried that my gearbox is spoilt or something because I thought that if the clutch wasn't depressed you would not be able to shift gears.

That's normal.

Yes, that is normal. If you are parked on an incline, that tends to load the drive train against the static engine, thus keeping a torsional load on the transmission and drive line. This will cause difficulty shifting without depressing the clutch AND it will let the vehicle to roll down the hill if you do get it into neutral.

you can shift gears without using the clutch all transmissions do that, but it will cause major damage over time to your clutch transmission and engine so i wouldn't advise doing it anymore. car manufacturers allow the transmission to change gears without the clutch so that in an emergency where your clutch may or may not work you can quickly change gears to slow down or back up.

You can, with some force, usually. But it's not good for the gearbox.
