They would be better of by wearing them, but there are a couple of reasons why we should accept they dont:
- its no fun and it looks weak;
- temperatures are to pleasant most of the time;
- you miss a lot of sightseeing;
- only soldiers are wearing helmets.. Athenians are all Gods.. so they do not need helmets;
Why should they wear them:
- traffic in Athens is deadly;
- it is obligatory to wear them;
And remember, none of the Greek Gods with or without helmets survived.. except in the mythes.. and in the musea..
So take care.. live your mythe in Greece with a helmet and without too much of Mythos beer on a bike.. Enjoy beautiful Greece

Nope. I just got back from Athens and I didn't see anyone wearing a helmet.

Yea they do now. The police are always out the road. And those who said no they don't u must haven't have been here in athens.

No, they dropped the helmets long time ago, after the last Persian war...
If you refer to protection of bicyclists or motorists, Law says they should wear one, but they don't, because:
- they do not want to obey to rules, even if it for their own good
- in summer time it is very hot, thus impossible to wear one
- they consider they look funny or -even worse- feminine
- they feel uncomfortable wearing them

Hi ya,
You might be interested to know that the police in the tiny island of Lipsi (in the Dodecanese) recently decided to have a crackdown on people wearing crash helmets on their mopeds.
As a result of this, everybody has started wearing cloth caps, turbans, hard hats, rasta hats...............everything and anything other crash helmets.
The Greeks don't like to be dictated to.................
