I know that "Heaven's Gate" was one of the biggest movie bombs of all time. Can anyone tell me why? What happened? Is there another movie disaster you can name that was worse? And why? I am just very curious because how could people invest millions into something so bad!

Actually, at the time, "Heaven's Gate" was a big bomb. From IMDb.com: "At the time, the biggest and most expensive Hollywood flops of all time, its failure resulted in the sale of the United Artists studio to MGM." "Catwoman" was a biiiig stinker. I did a quick little search, and found a couple sites of interest for your question. May not list every single movie, but it does give you a good idea. The first link even shows you the gross it made in comparison to how much the budget for the movie was.

Water world with kevin kostner was a box office bomb i never watched it but i heard it was pretty bad. Star wars the second one made was under budget and they thought it was going to be a bomb and they couldnt even pay the actors cause they didnt have the funds. I think its just kinda of a hit or miss thing. You dont ever know exactly how the people are going to like your movie so you just take a chance.

Water international got here close, yet made alot extra money than maximum all and sundry is prepared to admit. It did a good little bit of business enterprise on Vhs while it have been given released and additionally the Waterworld instruct at usual studios in California helped pull alot of a reimbursement in. Cuthroat island on the different hand, bombed so undesirable that it collapsed the Carolco action picture studio. A studio that had the rights to the Terminator franchise. Thats how undesirable that one action picture on my own substitute into. Renny Harlin the director curiously vowed on no account to make yet another action picture yet luckily he did circulate directly to make the long kiss goodnight a twelve months later and then deep blue sea. phew!

'Heaven's Gate' starring Warren Beatty was NOT a bomb but a money-making critically acclaimed hit! I believe you're confusing it with 'Ishtar' also starring Warren Beatty, which is on record as THE biggest box-office flop ever. Even beating Waterworld. :-)

Other ones that I heard cost a huge amount of money to make but bascially made no money are "Waterworld" and "War of the Worlds" and "Pearl Harbor"

One movie that got good reviews that was absolutley awful was the Talented Mr. Ripley. I watched it hoping that it might get better, it never did. Terrible movie.
