Contrary to what many believe, moles do not hibernate. They need to eat daily as their metabolism will not allow them to store fat. They live underground, burrowing holes but never hibernate. They feed on small invertebrate animals living under ground. As the surface of the ground gets cold, their food source goes deeper so they go deeper too.♥

No, I don't believe they do. I have certainly seen evidence of mole activity during the winter months, and if you think about it, it would be dangerous for a mole to hibernate. If a mole is seen on the surface, it is often because it has been flooded out of its tunnels. A hibernating mole would not have a chance of survival. A mole does have one or more larders, in which worms not required for immediate consumption are nipped and then stored. It is these larders that can see a mole through lean times.
