After raising three infants I found the formula to be, change diaper, feed, burp, sleep. Unless there was something else wrong, all three of them would crash hard after they finished the bottle. Sometimes I wouldn't be able to burp them. But none the less, they usually fell asleep after they had a bottle. So you don't want to get the diaper change in the way of that ;)

Depending on if your baby is prone to colic. If the baby is not a colicy baby, then keep doing what you are doing, no scientific reasons are there to why you should burp before changing, as long as the baby does not have milk still in her mouth for her to aspirate (choke)...and anything to help baby fall asleep faster so mom can get more rest is the best! Never doubt yourself....you are doing an awesome job!

Maybe I am a slacker but if my baby was sleeping I let him be. Even though he always pooped during feedings those first weeks. I was just so happy he would be sleeping.
Also burping my baby never really worked, he would just tense up if you patted his back, sometimes even rubbing would make him tense so I would just keep him upright, then he would burp.

When he wakes up I first chnage his diaper, then feed him and then burp him.
If he poops while feeding, I just change him again.
I do it in this order because usually when he finishes his bottle he is very sleepy and if I start to change him he'll be wide awake...

I always change him before I feed, then he is more comfortable. Then after he is done I burp him.

I typically change my son before I feed him (he usually needs it). After feedings, he gets burped. Then it's up to him... it's either nap time or play time.

Heres how we do it, and it seems to work out well. We get our sonout of bed, change him, feed him, then burp him. I normally let him play, or if he's not happy then maybe back to bed. It seems to work out pretty well.
