Yes, a baby from new born stage can use a pacifier. Be careful on the pacifier and how long they use it, meaning to what age, due to teeth formation.(at age 1 is a good time to start weaning the pacifier) I can not remember the brand name of hte pacifer, however, the tip of the pacifier looks like the tip of a bottle nipple. They are hard to find, but they exsist, ask your hospital nursery or find a neonatologist in your area. I would recommend a pacifier before thumb sucking due to you can throw out the pacifier and not the thumb. Also, a pacifier is a great way to increase the babies endorphines, so let baby start sucking on the pacifier about 20 minutes before immunizations and while receiving them, and for 20 to 30 minutes after the shots as well.

I had to ask the nurses in the nursery not to give our son a pacifier. I wanted to wait until he was a month old so he didn't feel like he had to have the pacifier to calm himself. Basically, that's what it's for... not a cork to shut him up but the suckling effect is soothing for baby.
There are various brands. Try a couple different ones to see which he likes best. My son only likes the Disney Character ones from the First Years and won't touch Nuks but that doesn't mean yours won't like Nuks.
Also, make sure you're looking at the packaging for the specific age. The nipples come in various sizes and I believe come in 0-3 months and 3+ months. My son is 5 months but still prefers the smaller 0-3 month pacifiers.

Yes, if you plan on using a pacifier than one month is a good time to start your baby on it. I highly recommend the Soothie pacifier. They gave us a few of them in the hospital to take home and my baby (now 3 1/2 weeks old) loves them so much that I went to Target and bought some back-ups. We also have some other brands (Playtex, Avent, and NUK) but she doesn't seem to like them as well and they fall out of her mouth more easily than the Soothie. Make sure you get the newborn or 0-3 month size.

Yes, it is actually very good for babies to used pacifiers. It helps to soothe a baby because some babies need more sucking action to soothe them than others. Also it helps reduce the risk of SIDS.
The only brand that my kids liked are the NUK pacifiers. Just be sure to keep checking them for holes and tears. Also make sure you use the right size for the baby. Some pacifiers are so small that my son was able to put the whole thing in his mouth.

I think it depends on the child if he or she will like a pacifier...and what kind. Buy a couple and give it a try.
My 3 children. #1, did not latch on, bottle fed. Had pacifier in hospital, the Soothie--you can buy at Target. Then later, loved Mam. #2, breastfed like a champ, he took a pacifier in the hospital, and later tried a Mam....eventually we both gave up....he just didn't care for it. Breastfed succesfully. #3, also breastfed like a champ. Liked the hospital pacifier, but the kind they make for older babies was harder and he did not like it. We tried the platex teething pacifiers and he loves those. Recently, I bought Mam, he does not like it. Breastfed for about 4 months, would have breastfed longer, but we went on a 10 day all expense paid trip to Hawaii....and he stayed with my mom.

yes but be sure when you buy one it is for new borns because the nipples range in sizes and you dont want to buy one thats too big as for brands there are many different types made by different companys its a trial and error thing i would but a few different brands and see which one your baby prefers and when you find the wnner buy more of that type my daughter liked playtex and mam so good luck.

Yup! Our son had one in his mouth a few hours after he was born. Playtex are good. We started off with the smaller pluggy, then when he got bigger we got a couple bigger ones.

of course.. & Any brand... Soothie, gerber & nuk are good
My kids never liked them... just made my life easier not to have to keep up w/ them, buy them, and clean them constantly... not to mention them losing sleep when they fall out... inhibiting nursing... and weaning from the paci later!
:)
