I need to know some events that affected China's advance in the arts...

The most significant event that I can think of is the Communist movement led by Mao. It completely destroyed the cultural heritage of China in my opinion. Outlawed classic belief systems such as Taoism and Confucianism.

China has a long and wonderful history, and they have contributed to the arts/humanites immensely.

Your question seems to be posed from a western perspective, in turn making difficult to answer. Apples and Oranges.
