A number of things are possible; type their name in the yahoo search bar, check the phone book, check with other people that know this person, try Yahoo People Search or hire an agency. You can look in places that you used to hang out, go by their house and knock on the door and ask, or post an ad in your local newspaper.

The internet is the most logical place. Run a search of their name on Google. Failing that, run search on names of their close friends and relatives, in case they have been able to maintain contact. Otherwise, retrace your last contact with them, then see if you can pick up the thread of their movements since then. Good luck.

Try http://www.peoplesearch.com. When it comes up, don't click "I'd like to announce I'm looking for someone", click "I would like to find someone today". It costs $7, but it gives you a whole list of info with phone numbers, previous places of residency, etc. Hope you find him/her!
