Depends on the state. In South Carolina, the child can leave without permission at 16, but cannot be forced out. At 18, the child can be forced out. Ask your local social services.

Going on US laws as I'm not sure where you are living.......

Without police involvement(if parents choose that route) - like the parents don't like the responsible adult chosen? Or think the environment chosen to live at is unsafe? Until 18 - they are legally responsible for any of a Minor's actions so of course they have to cover themselves by checking on those things.

At 18 you are a legal adult - responsible for your own actions. Enjoy your youth - its the only one you will have.

So far as I am aware, the age is 16, which is the same age as legal marriage. This is probably the reason for it.

I don't know absolutely whether the courts and authorities would want to enforce a "Ward of Court" proceedings, to oversee the teenager in question, but I suspect they would not unless there was good reason for this.

So far as I am aware, even if parents report that a 16 year old has left home, they would not pursue it, other than to establish that the person was alive and well, if they had left of their own accord.

At 18 you are considered an adult and can leave. Age 16 is to young in my opinion to be out on their own.
