Great Britain does not play Rugby (union) in any 'nation's cup, let alone the Tri Nations Series. That an annual international rugby (union) series held between Australia's Wallabies, New Zealand's All Blacks and South Africa's Springboks.

tri = 3

For years the southern nations longed for a competition like the Home Nations, which we now call the six nations.

In 1871, England and Scotland played the first rugby union international. After 12 years of occasional friendly matches between the teams, the inaugural Home International Championship, comprising England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales was played in 1883.

In 1910 the French, who had played in four of the tournaments up to that time, coined the phrase "Five Nations". Italy joined the competition in 2000 and it is now known as the Six Nations Championship.

Despite the quality of the teams involved, the Tri Nations Series does not arouse the same level of passion and intensity as it is a much younger competition - first contested in 1996.

Of course playing Union Rugby, I would not know about the strange game they call Rugby league. Apparently it is a team sport played by two teams of 17 players, with 13 on the field at any one time and 4 'on the bench'

I think they play it in Yorkshire and the north west? perhaps they have a tournament called the tri? (sarcasm)

Depending on which Tri nations you refer to. First Rugby Union Tri Nations are played between New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. Second Rugby League Tri nations are played between New Zealand, Australia and Great Britain. Hope that helps?
